I lost the love of my life of 34 years to a sickness a few months ago. The sickness was the Big C that destroyed her body and her will over a 8 month period. So many tens of millions of my fellow citizens have been sent away due to this and other sicknesses. So many of them did not have the proper health care to perhaps keep the grim reaper from that doorway. THAT is the sickness caused by an empire filled with greedy and selfish people, who make up not even one percent of our population.
Did you know that a bit over sixty years ago the top income tax bracket for rich Americans was 90%? Now, we all know that the super rich did not pay 90%, what with their accountant’s skill. A relative of mine, successful but certainly not super rich, as a sales rep was able to afford a new Cadillac for himself and another for his wife, along with a nice home and membership in a fancy country club. Imagine how high on the hog he could have lived in today’s financial temperature of a top rate of 37% in federal income tax. Bottom line: The super rich and their simply rich ( like my uncle) neighbors have got it made. And it’s us working stiffs who have to pay the piper to just stay above water and not drown. Higher rents, higher food costs, shitty health insurance ( if they even have any) expensive Big Pharma medications, high cable TV charges, high internet fees, higher car insurance and home or apartment insurance, high dental and eyeglass costs… need I go on?
Meanwhile, turn on the boob tube and watch commercials using athletes who are earning usually tens of millions per year… and they still want more money so they sell themselves to the corporation. Members of the Trump Regime who are not just millionaires, but BILLIONAIRES. These sharks who become heads of government agencies and in reality don’t give a rat’s ass about the public. A Congress filled with a myriad of millionaires who say they ‘ Serve the people’. Television news talk shows with anchors earning tens of millions per year.. pretending to be Everyman. Do you think any of the aforementioned really give a damn about those Venezuelan speedboats blown away with our missiles or the over 150 Iranian elementary schoolgirls incinerated by Uncle Sam on the damn first day of this illegal war?
As the rural hospitals and clinics close down due to cuts in the safety net, silence. As our medical system is owned by super rich private equity and services keep going down the rabbit hole all in the name of private profit, silence. All that matters to the serfs is the next night out to party on, or a little booze or narcotic rescue. People don’t even talk to one another anymore, maybe to connect on what ails us. No, they TEXT and do their LOL. Let me ask you, who was sicker, my dying wife or this dying culture?
