A forty two year old man who never experienced a true successful partnership in his life, whether in business or in romance, and a thirty two year old single mother who shared this situation, met and quickly fell in love… Just like that. Yes, to all the therapists out there, we both were needy, searching for someone to be that Rock to cling to. I guess nothing is perfect, except when the conditions for true love are so powerful.
Me, the deep feeling poetic man, was always protective over my two sons and any woman I happened to get close to. She, the single mother divorced from a paranoid schizophrenic, did everything in her low income position to give her five year old daughter as normal a life as possible. When her response to my personal ad included a photo, I saw more than just the physical attractiveness… and she was quite beautiful. I could sense, pardon my obtuse metaphysical thinking, that this woman carried within her a look of a survivor to any and all the struggles and trials of life. I couldn’t wait to meet her.
When she walked into the Red Robin restaurant I jumped up, like some schoolboy, to greet her. She had that ‘Mona Lisa’ smile which only exhibits itself from women who tell anyone who understands how much they carry deep inside. On top of that, as we sat and chatted for perhaps an hour I looked through her beautiful blue eyes almost into her very soul. I realize now how corny that must sound, but it was true. She did have this almost angelic glow, the same one I now gaze at from her baby picture staring back at me on the wall behind my desk. My dear late friend and famous clairvoyant, Barbara Stabiner, after meeting Stacy remarked that she was ‘An angel who had not yet gotten her wings’.
Stacy and I formed a wonderful, testy at times yes, 34 year partnership and love affair married with two factors that cemented it all. That being this emotional and spiritual connection that nothing could ever break apart. Nothing!
